Facility Inspections

Grade: A+

In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. In calculating our nursing grades, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning residents even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Turning the page to our third category, we gave this nursing home a score of A for its long-term care score. This is a superb grade. Facilities that do well in this category typically provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Switching gears to the last area, this nursing home was given an extremely favorable short-term care score. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category, rounding out a straight A profile. In our short-term care grade, we strive to craft a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
