Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a very impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with an A-. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid facilities that had too many deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Surprisingly, we gave this nursing home a grade of C for our long-term care grade, which is not too bad of a score. Our long-term care grade focuses on a facility's assistance with daily living instead of the highly skilled nursing and healthcare services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 92.36948 percent of its patients. This is a bit less than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Fortunately, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. Our nursing rating assesses the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This place offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is well below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. This facility fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we looked at is short-term care. This nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel grade of F in that area. In determining our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Not surprisingly, we learned that this place provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average nursing home. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.9 percent of its residents returning home.
