Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received a very strong nursing grade. Nursing proved to be its best category. In this area, we awarded this facility an A-. Our nursing grade weighs many datapoints, but the most important consideration is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning patients more often.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Turning to inspections, this facility excelled in that area, which is based on the facility's inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also above average in the category of short-term care, where it was given a score of B+. It performed more favorably than most facilities in this category. With our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to forge a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next category we graded ended up being this facility's worst area. Nevertheless, even its weakest link would actually be a strength for most facilities. In fact, we gave it a strong grade of B for our long-term care category. Facilities that excel in this category typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 98.48485 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
