Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While we were not very complementary of this facility's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with an A. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid places that have a long list of deficiencies. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next best area we gave this facility in any area came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. In determining our long-term care grades, we look at the personal care received by the facility's residents. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. We were concerned by the fact that this facility vaccinated just 82.638885 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Nevertheless, this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only earned a grade of D for its short-term care score, which is not an impressive grade. In calculating these short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Considering its grade in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this nursing home was well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the data we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. The last metric we assessed in this area is the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last area we rated was nursing, in which this nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel score in this area also. It received an abysmal F for this category, which is definitely a major concern. Our nursing grade is mostly based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores hurt this facility's nursing rating quite a bit.
