Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to performing well overall, this facility earned nearly flawless government inspections. Consequently, it earned one of our best grades in that category with an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home received impressive scores in the area of long-term care as well. As a result, we gave it one of our highest scores in that area with a score of A-. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 97.33728 percent of its patients. This is a reliable method to minimize unnecessary deaths for the aged 65 and up population. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. The nursing rating is based on a variety of subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This place provides 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In fact, it scored well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we graded is short-term care, in which this nursing home received a C. This actually proved to be this facility's least impressive area. This is still not a major area of concern. In the area of short-term care, we seek to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. It doesn't appear that this nursing home submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
