Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

To pair with its strong overall score, we gave this facility an A for short-term care. Short-term care grades are typically used to assess a facility's rehabilitation services. To have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this facility an A. Our nursing rating includes numerous factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Another strong feature for this facility is that it excelled in inspections, with a B in that category. It performed better than most facilities in this area. Inspection grades are based on several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to resident health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

The next area we rated was long-term care. We gave it a lowly F for this area, which is a very poor score. We wouldn't necessarily dismiss a nursing home as a result of a single poor score though. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.64286 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
