Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

We would like to point out that this facility's inspection rating exceeded its overall grade. This facility earned a B+ in this category, which is one of our better grades. Our inspection grades are based on many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home received its second highest category score in the category of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this area, which is a respectable grade. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its level of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. The real question is whether this adversely impacted quality of care. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually well below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. We assessed the licensure of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses worked with patients, in determining our rating in this area. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It scored well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care provided.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next area we graded is long-term care, was this nursing home's least impressive area. We gave this nursing home a D in that category. For residents looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. One of the criteria we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Thankfully, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
