Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its impressive overall grade, we gave this nursing home an A+ for our nursing rating. We looked at the skill-level of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours those nurses were with residents, in calculating our score in this category. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility performed well in the area of short-term care. As a result, we awarded it a score of A for that category, which happens to be one of our higher scores. Our short-term care ratings are presumably more meaningful for people in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home is also above average in the area of long-term care, where it received a grade of B. It outpaced most facilities in this area. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: C

Moving on the final category of inspections, we gave this facility a C for this category. Inspection scores weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home had 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were in categories G through L. This indicates inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.
