Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

On top of performing well in its overall score, this facility received even higher marks in the area of nursing. In fact, we gave it one of our best scores in that category with a grade of A-. Our nursing score is based on several subcategories, however, the most important one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a system of moving patients at least once a day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Adding to its impressive category grades, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B+ for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The third category we analyzed is long-term care. This facility received an impressive long-term care grade, with a B in this area. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 95.695366 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a reliable method to minimize negative health outcomes for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we looked at was short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in that area. In calculating our short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This category is typically a meaningful measure of the facility's rehabilitation services. It doesn't look like this facility submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The final item we assessed in this area is the number of patients that returned home from the facility. We found that just 4.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
