Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it did receive a very good score in the area of inspections. We gave it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with too many deficiencies flagged. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. Our nursing score is largely tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, nursing ratings also factor in quality-based measures, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses aids to assist its patients.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this nursing home only received a grade of D for its long-term care grade, which is not a score to write home about. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final category we scored was short-term care, which was this nursing home's worst category. We gave this nursing home a D in this category. With our short-term care grade, we strive to craft a valuable gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Given its grade in this area, we were not stunned to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the data we assessed. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
