Facility Inspections

Grade: C

While this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a C for that category, which is one of our better scores. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in categories G through L. This means CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an D. When calculating our nursing grades, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these metrics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's second worse score was long-term care, where it received a grade of just D in that category. This is a relatively poor score. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category may not provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities provide. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. Unfortunately, this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 49.537037 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we assessed is short-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is a rock bottom grade. Our short-term care grade is often employed to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final statistic we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics was damning for this facility's short-term care score.
