Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent health inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next highest area ended up being long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B-. Long-term care grades are commonly used to score a facility's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services offered by a rehabilitation facility. One of the criteria we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 98.23232 percent of its residents. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. There are a variety of subcategories included in this area. Most of the factors relate to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is significantly below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed well in this metric. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we looked at is short-term care. For that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C. In our short-term care grade, we endeavor to create a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 5.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
