Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To pair with its relatively modest overall grade, we gave this facility a grade of A for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than its overall rating. Inspection grades are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility also was awarded a strong short-term care score. Indeed, we awarded them a B in this category, which happens to be one of our more favorable scores. In the area of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, it does not look like this nursing home submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The last measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. Our nursing score analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It scored well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Switching gears to the fourth area, we gave this nursing home a grade of D for the area of long-term care. This was the nursing home's weakest category score. Naturally, this category hurt the facility's overall profile to a certain degree. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
