Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ for nursing. Our nursing category consists of many factors, many of which are based on nursing hours. This facility provided 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place District of Columbia in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning residents more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our short-term care rating. We gave them an impressive score of A+ in this area. In determining our short-term care scores, we analyze a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This grade is more often than not a meaningful measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also was elite in the category of long-term care, where it received a score of A. Very few facilities performed better in this category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for resident care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the datapoints we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 98.17073 percent of its residents. This is a great way to minimize negative health outcomes for the senior population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition, this facility also earned a virtually flawless government inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a grade of A-. With this impressive grade, this place is one of the few nursing homes in District of Columbia to earn straight A's. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
