Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this facility excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received a grade of A. Few facilities performed better in this category. With our short-term care category, we endeavor to craft a fair gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an A. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home was given a favorable long-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that area with a score of B+. For prospective patients looking for a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 93.774315 percent of its residents. This is a bit less than we were hoping for but still a decent figure. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Turning to the final category we assessed, this nursing home received a good grade in inspections as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category. This nursing home didn't have any major weak links. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple relatively minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
