Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

We would like to point out that this nursing home's inspection grade exceeded its overall score. This facility earned a B+ in this area, which is one of our better grades. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility was given its next most favorable category grade in the area of long-term care. We awarded this facility a B- in this area, which is a decent score. Our long-term care grades are pivotal for people in need of non-healthcare services such as personal care. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable percentage. This place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-, which is a decent grade. Nursing scores are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is not an impressive total. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we scored was short-term care, which turned out to be a low point for this nursing home. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in our short-term care category. Our short-term care ratings are thought to be most important for people in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This includes not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Based on its grade in this area, we were not stunned to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the data we looked at. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.1 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below average.
