Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to point out the fact that this facility has received near flawless health inspections recently. We gave them an A+ in this area. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also fared very well in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a score of A. Not many nursing homes performed better in this area. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 5.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to an additional strength for this nursing home, we gave them one of our better scores in our long-term care category as well, with a B+. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 99.73475 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The final area we looked at is nursing, in which this nursing home was awarded a B. This actually turned out to be this facility's worst area. A nursing home is doing something right when their poorest grade still outperforms most facilities. We analyzed the qualifications of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses were with residents, in computing our grade in this category. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as good indicators of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
