Facility Inspections

Grade: B

While we were not high on this nursing home's overall performance, it did receive an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that area with a B. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid places with too many severe deficiencies flagged. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Our nursing grade weighs several factors, however, the primary consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. While this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it did well in this subcategory. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of short-term care, this facility was awarded just a D in that area. With our short-term care assessment, we attempt to create a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at the facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Based on its grade in this category, we were not surprised to find that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. Honestly, this was about what we expected here. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.2 percent of its residents returning home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Switching gears to our final area, this facility really did not perform very well in this area either. With a poor grade of F in long-term care, this is about as terrible as it gets. For prospective patients looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.9011 percent of its residents, which is an above average percentage. To our surprise, this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
