Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a quality facility overall, this place really excelled in our inspections category, where it earned a grade of A+. Not many nursing homes fared better in that area. Inspection ratings are based on several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility also received an impressive short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it an above average grade of B in this category. Our short-term care grade is typically used to measure a facility's rehabilitation services. To provide highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. It doesn't look like this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The final measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facilities third most favorable category is long-term care. We awarded it a B- in this area. This is essentially a middle of the pack score in this category. In forming our long-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is more than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final area we looked at is nursing. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B-. Our nursing score looks at the facility's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.
