Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of performing well overall, this facility earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that area with a grade of A+. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also excelled in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A-. Only a select group of facilities received a better grade in this area. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is usually a good sign for resident care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 97.85714 percent of its patients, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing grades are mostly tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The final category we analyzed was short-term care, where this facility received a B+. This finished off a first-rate report card. Very few nursing homes earned a B+ or better in every single category. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To provide quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
