Facility Inspections

Grade: A+

On top of being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in our inspections category, where it earned an A+. Very few nursing homes performed as well in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. We were not able to track down deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Once we assessed the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

The third category we assessed is short-term care. Adding to its high-end resume, this facility also performed well in this area. In fact, it received a grade of of A in the category. Short-term care grades are generally used to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To have highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In our final category, we gave this nursing home a grade of A+ for our nursing score. This finished off a first-rate report card. The nursing score considers a host of factors. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
