Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of long-term care. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.56897 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the senior population. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This facility also earned an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the rare facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This score is based on the place's recent government inspections. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. Our nursing score considers numerous subcategories. The most important one is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning residents more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to our next area, this nursing home also performed well in our short-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ in that area. This finalized a very impressive profile. Short-term care grades are generally used to measure a facility's rehabilitation services. To have highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. We weren't able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
