Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To pair with its decent overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A for its inspection grade. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall rating. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is really what you like to see in this important metric.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's more impressive category grades came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B. It actually outperformed most nursing homes in this area. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 97.90576 percent of its residents, which is far higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facilities third most favorable category is short-term care. We gave it a B- in this area. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this area. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 5 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next area we looked at is nursing, which is this facility's weakest area. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that area. Naturally, this category hurt the facility's overall profile to some degree. Our nursing score is based on a host of factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home averaged only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this facility also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
