Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also received an A+ for its nursing grade. Nursing grades are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it received a score of B. It performed more favorably than most nursing homes in this category. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The last area we rated was short-term care, where this facility received a grade of B. Believe it or not, this is this nursing home's weakest category. A nursing home is doing something right when it's lowest grade still beats out most facilities. With our short-term care category, we strive to forge a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 4.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
