Facility Inspections

Grade: B

While this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually fared pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B for that category, which is one of our better scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our short-term care grade and that actually ended up being its next most favorable category. In determining our short-term care ratings, we size up the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is considered to be a meaningful assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. With a score in this range for this area, we were not stunned to find that this facility was well below average in two of the key staffing metrics we assess. It supplied substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this nursing home only earned a D for its long-term care grade, which is not a very good score. For prospective patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is more than the average nursing home. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next category we analyzed was nursing, which was this nursing home's weakest category. We awarded this facility a D in that category. When computing a facility's nursing grade, we consider the amount of time nurses are seeing residents and the levels of training of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. On top of receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this nursing home was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients suffering pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this metric.
