Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a quality facility overall, this facility really performed well in long-term care, where it earned a grade of A+. Few facilities fared better in this area. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. Once we assessed the amount of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 97.41936 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a life threatening health condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also excelled in inspections. In fact, we gave it an A- for that area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. Our nursing rating is mostly tied to a facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, our nursing ratings also consider quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically an indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses aids to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to our last area, we gave this facility a grade of D for short-term care. This is the facility's least impressive category score. Sadly, this grade pulled down the facility's overall grade to a certain degree. Our short-term care scores are critical for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more highly-skilled nursing. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. It looks like this place was below average in several staffing metrics we assessed. In fact, it offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The final measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics doomed this nursing home's short-term care score.
