Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility really excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. This place received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A couple relatively minor dings aren't something to panic about.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we awarded this facility a B in our short-term care category. This is one of our higher scores. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who returned home from this facility. We found that 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. The nursing score analyzes several subcategories, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a somewhat concerning figure as it is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we graded is long-term care. We awarded this nursing home a D for the area of long-term care, leaving this as the facility's least impressive category grade. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an above average percentage. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
