Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a decent short-term care grade this year. We gave it a B- in that category. In the area of short-term care, we try to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The tricky part is determining what bearing this had on quality of care. The final measure we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 4.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B- for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. Nursing grades are primarily associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. In fact, it scored well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the number of hours of care provided.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

Unfortunately, with a grade of D in the inspection category, this facility performed relatively poorly in that area. One of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We suggest you scrutinize the level of severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home had 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they posed a threat to resident safety or health. Lastly, we also need to point out that this facility received large government fines recently amounting to over $100,000. This usually indicates that a poor track record has been an issue for several years.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we assessed is long-term care. This nursing home received a very poor grade of F in that area. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care likely don't provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes offer. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. Unfortunately, this nursing home vaccinated just 78.65613 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
