Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our long-term care rating. For patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We found that this facility provided the vaccine to just 77.55102 percent of its residents, which is quite a bit lower than we expected. Nevertheless, this facility excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home really excelled in nursing, where it received an C. Few facilities performed better in this category. Our nursing rating is largely based on the facility's nurse staffing. This place averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is well below average. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

This nursing home did not receive favorable inspection reports in recent years. In fact, it only received a grade of D for its inspection grade. Inspection scores account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. This particular nursing home had 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they posed a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, we would like to point out that this place was assessed significant government fines amounting to over $100,000. This generally means that a poor performance has been an issue for several years.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we looked at was short-term care. We gave it an F in this area, which is a very poor grade. Our short-term care grades are crucial for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. This means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below average.
