Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its nearly flawless health inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an A in this category. Our inspection ratings are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Turning to an additional strength for this facility, it also received a superb long-term care grade. Indeed, we gave this facility a score of A-. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.42363 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C, which is a decent grade. There are a host of datapoints within this area. Many of the factors are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This facility provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below the national average. Finally, although this place got docked a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of our quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this metric.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we rated was short-term care, which proved to be this nursing home's worst area. It received an abysmal F for this area, which is certainly very disappointing. In our short-term care rating, we try to craft a fair barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. It looks like this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the staffing figures we considered. The last item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.1 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.
