Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The main reason this facility received a decent overall score is its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our higher grades in that category, with an A+. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also fared well in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we gave it a grade of A- in that area, which happens to be one of our most impressive grades. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 95.548965 percent of its residents. This is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an D. We scrutinized the licensure of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses were with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This facility offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is not a very impressive figure. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This place fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to the last category, this nursing home didn't fare well. Due to a poor grade of F in short-term care, this was this facility's poorest area. In our short-term care score, we attempt to craft a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. We found that this nursing home was below average in many staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most facilities. The final statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.
