Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

One of the reasons this ended up being a strong nursing home is that it earned an impressive inspection score. Inspections is its best category grade. In this category, we gave this facility a grade of A-. Our inspection ratings are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. We were not able to find information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Without having deficiency related data for this facility, it is a challenge to fully evaluate the place in the inspections category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Adding to its profile, this nursing home also earned a score of B for its short-term care rating. This is a well above average score in this area. Our short-term care grades are believed to be more important for patients requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we were not able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home is also strong in the category of long-term care, where it was awarded a score of B. It performed better than most nursing homes in this area. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a deadly ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The final area we assessed is nursing. This nursing home was awarded a grade of C for the area. Nursing ratings are primarily based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a low total compared with most nursing homes. Finally, our nursing ratings also factor in some quality-focused measures. We look at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these metrics are decent indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care can reduce these issues.
