Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Even though we gave this nursing home a terrible overall score, we gave it a B- for short-term care. Our short-term care grades are critical for individuals in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This facility's second best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. Nursing scores are mostly based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

This nursing home did not receive favorable inspection reports in recent years. In fact, it only received a grade of D for its inspection grade. Inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. This particular nursing home was assessed 6 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they posed a threat to patient health or safety. Lastly, we also need to point out that this facility received large government fines recently of more than $100,000. This usually means that a facility's poor performance has been an issue for multiple years.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we rated is long-term care. This nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel grade of F in that area. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home vaccinated 98.13664 percent of its residents, which is a very solid statistic. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
