Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although this place's overall grade was not a highlight, it received a somewhat respectable score in the category of inspections. We awarded it a B- for this category, which is not bad. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we awarded this facility an B-. We weighed the levels of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of time the nurses spent with residents, in calculating our rating in this area. This facility averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day, which is well below average. Lastly, nursing scores also consider quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facilities next best area is short-term care. We awarded it a B- in this category. This is essentially a middle of the pack grade in this area. Short-term care grades are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next area we looked at was long-term care. This nursing home received a C in the category. Long-term care grades are generally used to judge a nursing home's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services provided by a skilled nursing facility. One of the criteria we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to only 81.66667 percent of its patients. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
