Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ long-term care grade. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. Once we assessed the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a life or death ailment for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its elite profile, this facility also excelled in our short-term care category. In fact, it received a grade of A for the category. In calculating these short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. We looked at the skill-level of nurses at the facility, in addition to the number of hours the nurses spent with residents, in calculating our rating in this area. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This nursing home has earned near flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. This is one of the few places in the nation to receive an A- or better in all four categories. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
