Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

On top of its strong overall grade, we awarded this facility an A for our long-term care rating. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are well cared for. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.542336 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition, this facility also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility was given a strong short-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our better grades in that area with a grade of B+. Our short-term care grades are crucial for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The final category we rated was nursing, in which this nursing home was given a B. While this turned out to be its lowest category score, this is still an above average rating. The nursing score includes several factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these data points as predictive measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
