Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ long-term care grade. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

In addition, this nursing home also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that area with an A. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. This place was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Turning our third area, this nursing home was awarded first-rate short-term care score. In fact, we gave it a score of A- in this category. In calculating these short-term care grades, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to devise a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
