Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. The nursing category is based on many factors, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also was elite in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of A-. Only a select group of facilities received a better grade in this category. In our short-term care rating, we strive to craft a valuable barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess a facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Turning to another of this nursing home's strengths, it also received a very impressive inspection rating. In fact, inspections turned out to be one of its best grades. In that area, we gave this nursing home an impressive grade of B+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A few relatively minor deficiencies are not necessarily something to panic about.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next area we scored is this nursing home's worst area. Nevertheless, even its lowest point would be a strength for most nursing homes. We gave it a favorable grade of B for long-term care. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
