Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of A+. Our nursing rating assesses many subcategories, however, the primary one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Another impressive feature of this facility is its inspection grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. Inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this category generally have few of these severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the last category we looked at, this facility received a very strong grade of B+ in our long-term care category. With this score, the nursing home topped off a first-rate report card. Facilities that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.09091 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
