Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition to earning a great overall rating, this nursing home performed even better in our inspections category which is associated with the facility's recent government inspections. We awarded it an A- for this category, which is one of our highest grades. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home is also above average in the area of long-term care, where it was awarded a score of B+. It performed better than most nursing homes in this category. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a reliable method to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we gave them one of our higher scores in our short-term care category as well, with a B+. In our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to craft a sound measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 5.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next area we graded was nursing. We awarded it a C in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this area. Nursing scores are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a low total compared with most facilities. Finally, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing scores. This nursing home was subpar in two of the major metrics we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are usually indicators of the quality of nursing care offered.
