Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also found that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also earned an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the rare facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This is based on the nursing home's government inspections. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, this nursing home also was given favorable short-term care grades this year. Indeed, we gave it one of our better grades in that category, with a grade of B. In our short-term care score, we strive to craft a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next area we rated is nursing. We gave this nursing home a decent score in this area, with a C. Even though this wasn't as dominant as a few of this nursing home's other scores, it is still not a bad grade. The nursing rating considers a variety of factors. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we look at quality-based metrics, such as the percent of residents who experienced pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these metrics are indicators of the quality of nursing care.
