Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that area, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. This place was assessed 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies an immediate threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this facility's second most favorable score was long-term care. However, with a grade of D in this area, it still fared somewhat badly. Nursing homes that don't fare well in this category often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit concerned this facility gave the vaccine to only 83.333336 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. When determining our nursing grades, we factor in both nursing hours and the training levels of the nurses. This particular place offered just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This number is well below the national average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these datapoints to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final category we analyzed is short-term care, was this nursing home's least impressive area. We awarded this facility a D in this area. In forming these short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Not surprisingly, we learned that this place offers significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average nursing home. The final datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.3 percent of its patients returning home.

Dubois Nursing Home Quality Metrics

Minimizes Serious Falls

Grade: C

In Dubois Nursing Home, 4.69% of Patients had Serious Falls

In Dubois Nursing Home, 17.94% of Patients use Anti-Psychotic Medication
