Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

It should be noted that this nursing home's inspection score outpaced its overall score. We awarded it a B+ for its inspections rating, which is a very solid score. Inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area typically have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's second best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. Our nursing score is mostly associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provides only 0.5 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a somewhat concerning figure which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. It scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third area we assessed is short-term care, where this facility received a grade of B- in this category. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the last category, we gave this nursing home a D in the area of long-term care. This is the facility's worst category score. Facilities that do not fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 85.6 percent of its residents. This is significantly less than what we expected. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.
