Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

On top of performing well in its overall score, this facility earned even higher marks in the area of nursing. In fact, we gave it one of our best scores in that category with an A-. We scrutinized the licensure of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses worked with residents, in determining our grade in this area. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive category grades, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for inspections. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most facilities in this area. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Switching gears to our fourth category, this facility was awarded a respectable short-term care score. Even though this was not as good as a few of its other category grades, this is truly not the end of the world. In forming these short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Unfortunately, we were not able to find registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this place. The final item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
