Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this very important category. Inspection grades weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically have few severe deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This facility also received an A+ for its long-term care grade. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are kept in good health. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

The third category we assessed is short-term care. This nursing home also received an A+ short-term care grade, rendering it one of the few facilities to receive more than one A+ category grades. Short-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 5.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Turning to the next area, this nursing home also performed admirably in the nursing category. In fact, we gave it an A for that area. This completed truly elite report card. Our nursing category includes quite a few components, many of which are based on nursing hours. This nursing home averages 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning residents at least once a day.
