Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a B- for inspections. This grade is more respectable than the place's overall score. Our inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses spent with residents, in determining our score in this category. This place provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third highest category we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Our long-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of nursing services. This means a broad scope of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable figure. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Moving on to our last area, this facility received a grade of C for short-term care, which we consider to be an acceptable score. Our short-term care grades are arguably more critical for those requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The last measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.
