Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. In addition to having severe deficiencies, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

As it turns out, this facility only earned a grade of D for its long-term care rating, which happens to be one of its more respectable category grades. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 99.46809 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this nursing home only received a grade of D for its short-term care score, which is not a score to write home about. Our short-term care grades are probably more critical for individuals in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. With its abysmal score in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this nursing home offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most facilities. The final measure we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics doomed this facility's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last area we looked at was nursing. We gave it a lowly F for this area, which is an abysmal grade. Our nursing grade features a number of factors. The most important variable is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this facility also had abysmal scores in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This place was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
