Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Even though we gave this nursing home a terrible overall score, we gave it a grade of B- for our nursing rating. There are a host of datapoints within this area. Many of the criteria are tied to staffing levels. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a facility has quality controls in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Surprisingly, we gave this facility a grade of C for its long-term care rating, which really isn't a bad grade. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. Unfortunately, this nursing home vaccinated just 71.00591 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Nevertheless, this place excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this facility just a D for our short-term care rating. This is not a very good score. Short-term care grades are often employed to assess a facility's rehabilitation services In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. With a score this poor for this area, we weren't surprised to find this facility was below average in many staffing metrics we focus on. It provided far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

The last category we looked at was inspections. Unfortunately, this ended up being this nursing home's weakest link. We gave it a score of D in this area. Since this information is compiled by independent government inspectors, we weight it heavily in our assessment. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. This particular facility was hit with 4 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they created a threat to patient health or safety. Lastly, we want to point out that this nursing home was assessed large government fines recently totaling over $100,000. This often means that a poor performance spanned several years.
