Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of receiving a strong overall rating, this nursing home received an A+ inspection score. This is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. An A+ in this category is one of the highest complements we can pay to a facility. Our inspection ratings are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to note the fact that this nursing home was superb in our long-term care rating. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this area. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is often a deadly illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. Our nursing rating looks at the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving a patient more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next category we graded was short-term care. We gave this facility one of our more favorable scores in that area, with a grade of B. While this was not as high as a few of this nursing home's other grades, it is nevertheless a perfectly acceptable grade. Our short-term care grades are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 4 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
