Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of receiving a strong overall grade, this facility also earned first-rate inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our best scores in that category, with a grade of A+. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also received a favorable long-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it an above average score of B+ in this area. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 98.333336 percent of its patients, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. Our nursing grade looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of skill of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a low total compared with most nursing homes. Finally, nursing ratings also factor in quality-based assessments, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses aids to assist its residents.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last area we assessed was short-term care. This nursing home received a B- for the area. In crafting these short-term care scores, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. We were not able to track down information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last statistic we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
